Evansville Analog Shutdown Times

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Less than two days until the shutdown of analog signals in the Evansville market.

Here is the timing (depending on who you ask):

  • WFIE 12:01am Friday
  • WNIN 12:01am Friday
  • WEVV 9:00am Friday (to nightlight status)
  • WTVW 11:59pm Friday
  • WEHT 11:59pm Friday

The ND at WEHT is saying that they will shut down at 12:01am, but the GM is saying 11:59pm. I’m leaning toward the 11:59pm time as WEHT’s time needs to coincide with WTVW’s because of the channel number moves.

And it was just announced this morning that WEVV will act as the nightlight station for the market.  Channel 44 analog will stay on the air for another two weeks, airing only looping DTV information for those last three people who thought the stations were all kidding and would never shut down the good ole analog tee-vee.

It’s D(TV)-Day… ho-hum.

beer-coupon.jpgIt’s the day that analog TV was to fade way. But no…

All of the major network Evansville stations were all set to pull the plug on their old transmitters and enter the digital-only age. But WEHT is either unready or unwilling to make the change on-time. So the other stations (WEVV, WFIE, WTVW) were left with the decision to move ahead and turn down their analog xmtrs, but chance the loss 10-15 percent of their audience (which would default to the only full-power analog station, WEHT)… or wait until the new D-Day of June 12th and have all stations suffer the same fate at the same time.

What the FCC isn’t telling you about the DTV switch

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

3671__antenna.jpgA recent report by the Centris market research firm says that about 40 million homes will be left without over-the-air service come 2009… and the government’s DTV education campaign isn’t telling them the whole story.
